Every number we text has given prior express consent through one of the three methods below. We never buy, rent, or import numbers from third-party lists.

  • 2. Texting us first. Someone texts (708) 501-6397 to send a tip or reach a reporter.
  • 3. Direct contact from our newsroom. A NewsHound reporter or editor asks permission before texting.

When consent is collected verbally or by email, staff read this script exactly:

Before the number is added, we log the source's name, mobile number, the date and time, the staff member who obtained consent, and the consent language used. These records are retained for the life of the program.

Stopping messages

Reply STOP to any message. You will get one confirmation and nothing further. CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, and STOPALL work the same way. To rejoin, sign up again on this page or reply START.

How we handle your information

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be sold, rented, shared, or transferred to any third party for marketing or promotional purposes.
